A king named Madho Singh built Bhangarh Fort after getting permission from a saint named Bala Nath. The saint had one rule—the fort’s shadow should never fall on his home. But later, one of the king’s descendants made the fort taller, and its shadow covered the saint’s house. As soon as this happened, disaster struck, and the fort was abandoned. Since then, people believe ghosts live there.
The Black Magician’s Curse
This story is more well-known. It says that a beautiful princess named Ratnavati lived in Bhangarh.
A magician fell in love with her and tried to trick her by putting a magic spell on her cosmetic, hoping she would fall for him. But the princess realized what he was doing and threw the cosmetic onto a big rock.
The rock rolled and crushed the magician to death. Before dying he cursed the fort, saying no one would ever live there in peace. Since then, the place has been haunted.

Locals there believe that ghosts wander inside the fort at night, and people have reported hearing strange noises. Some even say that anyone who dares to enter the fort after dark never comes back.

The Archaeological Survey of India has posted a warning board outside, telling people not to enter the fort after dark. How to Reach Bhangarh Fort?
From Alwar
Bhangarh is about 90 km from Alwar. You can take a taxi or bus to reach the fort.
From Delhi
Bhangarh is around 269 km from Delhi via Neemrana or 242 km via Alwar.
The Alwar route is shorter but takes a bit longer due to road conditions.
The best way is to take NH8, continue past Neemrana, then take NH11A, followed by SH55 for the last 20 km.
The awesome journey takes about 4 hours to 5 hours by car.
On the way back you can stop at Alwar Fort or Sariska Tiger Reserve for a quick visit.
From Jaipur
Bhangarh is just 83 km from Jaipur, making it a perfect day trip.
Take NH11 and follow Agra Road. After Dausa, take NH11A, then switch to SH55 for the last stretch.
The drive takes about 2 hours.
